For a few years now all packets of cigarettes in Great Britain have carried a Government health warning<<smoking can damage your health..
Although experts are still not certain whether smoking causes cancer or not,it has been proved beyond doubt that even a few cigarettes have an effect on the body-particularly on the heart and the lungs.In spite of information warning about the danger and in spite of many price increases people continue to smoke.What is the attraction?
Many people start smoking when they are still at school or university.They do this because their parents are already smokers or because they want to be like their friends;they think with a cigarette in their hand they look like adults.Advertisements encourage young people in particular by showing pictures of rich,healthy and attractive people smoking in beatiful places.
The true picture is actually quite the opposite.This is seen by British school children in films made by the Government which are shown by teachers in the classroom during biology lessons.A slide of a dead mans lung gives an example of the effect of tobacco.
Besides,smoking is also a dirty habit.If one has been in a room where someone has lit a cigarette,ones clothes and hair smell of smoke for days.A person who does not smoke seems to have no right to smoke-free rooms in places as pubs,restaurants,and some offices.this habit has been socially accepted and it seems we just have to put up with it.
Why dont Governments forbit smoking in all public places and make a seriuos attempt to make people aware of the dangers of tobacco?The reason is that they are dependent on the large amount of money which they receive from taxes on the sale of cigarettes.It is therefore a question of money.Our politicians must decide which is more important-our money or our health. |

Seit ein paar Jahren ist auf allen Zigaretten-Packungen in Grossbritannien eine Warnung vom Gesundheitsministerium: rauche kann ihre Gesundheit gefährden.

Obwohl Experten (Fachleute) sich immer noch nicht sicher sind ob rauchen Krebs erregend ist oder nicht, wurde dennoch ohne Zweifel bewiesen, dass sogar schon wenige Zigaretten einen (schlechten) Einfluss auf den Körper haben - insbesondere auf Herz und Lungen.

Trotz Informationskampagnen, die vor den Gefahren warnen und trotz des Preisanstiegs rauchen die Leute weiterhin. Worin besteht die Anziehungskraft?

Viele Leute fangen mit dem rauchen an wenn sie noch zur Schule oder auf die Universität/Hochschule gehen. Sie machen das, weil ihre Eltern acuh schon Raucher sind, oder weil sie wie ihre Freunde sein wollen; sie denken mit einer Zigarette in der Hand sehen sie aus wie Erwachsene.

Reklametafeln (Werbespots, Plakate oder ähnliches kann man auch sagen) ermutigen speziell junge Leute, indem sie (die Plakate) Bilder von reichen, gesunden und schönen/attraktiven Leuten zeigen, die an wunderschönen Orten rauchen.

Das wahre Bild ist in Wirklichkeit das genaue Gegenteil. Britische Schulkinder sehen das im Klassenraum während des Biologie-Unterrichts in Filmen, die von der Regierung gemacht wurden. Ein Dia (eine Folie) von der Lunge eines toten Mannes zeigt die Auswirkungen von Tabak.

Davon abgesehen ist rauchen eine schmutzige Angewohnheit. Wenn man in einem Raum gewesen ist, in dem jemand eine Zigarette angezündet hat, riechen Kleidung und Haare tagelang nach Rauch.

Ein Nichtraucher hat anscheinend kein Recht auf rauchfreie Räume an Orten wie Kneipen, Gaststätten und einigen Büros. Diese Angewohnheit ist gesellschaftlich akzeptiert, und es scheint wir müssen damit einfach leben.

Warum verbieten die Regierungen das rauchen nicht in allen öffentlichen Orten und machen einen ernsthaften Versuch die Leute auf die Gefahren von Tabak aufmerksam zu machen?

Der Grund ist, dass sie abhängig sind von dem grossen Betrag an Geld, das sie aus den Steuern auf den Zigarettenverkauf bekommen. Daher ist es eine Frage des Geldes.

Unsere Politiker müssen entscheiden was wichtiger ist: Geld oder unsere Gesundheit.
